Revolutionary front footed surfing….. his wake suggests a brief rail catch as the nose engaged too long on his first rail transition, but with full commitment to his heel edge, that rail will release and that will create amazing speed and drive through his next bottom turn.
Experimental as that equipment was, it fit his surfing ambition and his skill managed any design flaws into advantages. In pure surfing terms, a lesson in developing technique.
That, ladies and gentlemen, is what Taj would have surfed like if he was born in the early 50’s.
Flow-master Fitz! Legend.
People normally associated “sitting” on a turn when that means “off the bottom”. I think Fitz drew different lines and maybe got caught “sitting” on his inside rail.
He’s over his front leg so hard that it caught and his body english is drawing him into recovery.
the classic speed-run roller-coaster. he has drawn a high line through an extended bottom turn and full body extension. reached the top of the arc against gravity and having milked the turn for all its worth. hammered down on his front and in the same motion compressed (cannon-ball technique) to set-up the drive to extension fitz bottom turn (with possible soul arch and hand extensions) patented at sunset and especially j-bay. that was the whole body torque rhetoric which was his schtick, i bet he still does these in his sleep. but wait lets quibble- yeah theres a slight speed hump transition but more the quality of the wave, than driver error. single fin pin-tail, he looks like his forward but thats the zone (compare barry k bottom turn sunset on slightly longer equipment) and after all there is only one criteria in mind – fastest lap time. kids turn his back foot front foot transitions from bunny hops to the real deal self perpetuating pump. that foam trailing is like tea leaves you can read the whole wave, his legacy, children and stubborness in terms of design philosophy.

I think that footage of Terry at jbay in the 70’s still holds up.
Speed,Flow, and Flair.Full matador effort.I could watch that all day.
When? Where ? Thought it was World Title’s Bells judging by the board but he has no wetsuit.
TF is the model for a seamless blend of style and persona from a time when such things counted.
