I’m seriously excited about seeing it in my hands! 😀
may i just add that fine contributions of images have also been made to this issue by oliver nicholson, thomas williams, jeremy hill, peter solness, andrew kidman, bruce edward and darius devas, none of whom are listed in the table of contents.
pete, i think i might have helped spike the numbers of views of the kevin brennan article the other night. i went to read it a couple times and was pretty drunk so might have clicked a bit more than necessary. doubt it was 88 times though, but maybe a key got stuck.
Wow already, geez I only just got the last one one and what a terrific read that was. So much so I renewed my, I think lapsed, subscription straightaway!
Re: The Cover
Two questions:
Is that the new J.Crew magazine? And is it a “gear Guide” issue?
congratulations on getting the next paper edition out! looking fwd to it
PS what means ‘pelican’? here, a lesson in gliding origami – still much to learn 😉
O-Simon O .. thank you so much for this link. I wish I had a school teacher like him when i was at school. Awesome dude.
“Smart arse, what do you do with a bloke who doesn’t recognise 2nd hand gear on a neighbour’s Hillsy?”
A: Fire your art director and develop a sense of humor.
Cover not to your liking, Rottmouth? Don’t buy it. All good.
We’re plenty stoked here, anyway.
We don’t do the pro tour groupie style cover. You will have to go elsewhere for that …
BTW: We enjoy experimenting with covers. Remember, we are not simply a surfing journal. Wetsuits = the sea in many ways and through many activities.
You win again Pete. Your tomfoolery is quite clever, and my contributions to your coffers is wonton. I would love to comment on the resident humor that exists here, but I’m too stoopid to find it. I shall leave you Australians to wallow in your illustrious heritage of humorists… give you something to chew on for a few.
Rotto. It’s nice to know you care so much about what us lot do.
Your self-appointed position as the regulator of the surf blogosphere and subsequently trolling about declaring what is to your taste or not is important, really.
But I should tell you that the fact that you and your ilk don’t get it means we are doing something right.
I kind of like the cover for a few reasons.
1. I read in some american surf mag Dane Reynolds does not own or know how to operate a dryer. So he must use a clothesline.
2. It exudes somewhat of a Martha Stewart Living vibe and perhaps her time in jail and Australia roots as a penal colony are merely coincidence, but I beg to differ. There is some Freud shit going on there.
3. Everyone knows there is always a smoking hot female in close proximity to any clothesline. I believe Descartes, Plato or Bob Guicione proved this.
Just remember to bring in the washing, Steve. You still have dinner to cook.
Ps Martha is Dane’s new stylist?
From K/baa contributor (Vol 2 Issue 2) to an SMH column. Go Karen!

I like the cover.
Typical.
The images in this edition are fantastic and the cover came up really well. Just out of curiosity which pics are from Darius (i used to know his dad) and Noah I still love your monks of the sea article and might give it to my class next week to ponder …
Noice fellas but the 6 point font is a bit trying for old eyes.
