Higher Education
It’s been flat and foggy here in Santa Cruz this late summer. My paunch has returned. “School” starts as autumn dawns, accompanied by sunshine, warmer water, current, firm abdomens, olallieberry brews, and monarch butterflies. For those who need a good schooling right about now, a poem:
Higher Education
I am mentally shackled
or maybe just mental
but I just want to get shacked
out of my mind
be free to ride
in water kind
keep new time
in my green shack
with liquid walls
and space to stall
a place to learn
to be sublime

Hey Dina!
I just want to get shacked as well!!
😀
Good stuff, Dina. This summer has indeed been cold and foggy as hell, glad fall’s just around the corner …
thanks, tom. there is one great thing i’ve noticed about the flatness: the nonhuman sea life–even in town–is easier to spot when the foam has dissipated. in the past week, i’ve run over a baby leopard shark with my longboard, been stalked by seals, witnessed an otter orgy, stumbled upon a porpoise in full rigor mortis at seabright with a big chunk missing out of its side, and found the most perfect abalone shell at low tide.
and in my retreat into higher ground (forest/mountains) in search of vitamin d, i have had encounters with a snake, a flower-eating mouse, a fox, wild turkeys, a mole that didn’t make it across the path, and a gang of young bucks, antlers and all!
those critters definitely broke the monotony of the fog!
“Otter Orgy” … now there is a youtube clip!
