this Greenland world is strange and beautiful. Their story matches others we have shared here, immensely touching. A glimpse of the upsetting and narrowing of a way of life, out of sight of the reality tunnel.
If you’re looking for a good book that describes a sailor’s perspective on passing a winter in the dark there, check out North to the Night: A Spiritual Odyssey in the Arctic. I flew over Greenland coming home from Europe one time and it was the most magical sight I have ever seen. It was right at dusk and imposing mountains, ice flows and fjords were highlighted by the evening sky. The coolest part was seeing a large expanse of white between mountains and, right in the middle, a light from either Inuits or hearty campers shown through. It’s probably a terrifyingly beautiful and harsh place to be.
