Amphioxus lanceolatus
Quote of the day comes from Shé:
For the human being … is in fact really descended from the fishes, and the famous Amphioxus lanceolatus has the honour of being the ancestor of all vertebrates and therefore of the human species.
From psychoanalyst Sandor Ferenczi in his book Thalassa (1924).
Hey Clif, Nice quote for the day. Thanks mate A friend recently made the comment, “What would happen if a fish could not swim”? Having ploughed through Darwin and Ferenzci in my research on water I have come to believe that fish that can’t swim or are encumbered in such a way that swimming has become difficult, adapted to land over many thousands of years. The oceans as you knw push and pull to their own destiny or the destiny that the moon and stars have set. It follows I guess, that what happens down here on earth, which is mostly ocean, is beholden to the motivations and moods if you like of the stars and the moon. No wonder the Greeks and the psychoanalysts that drew on their cosmological tales (paticularly Ferenczi) drowned in their own stories only to be regurgitated in new place and time and form with new conditions of possibility. More to follow when I un pack my stuff. I have just done the unthinkable and moved from Newport (7 minute walk to beach) to Leichhardt (7 minute walkto river). It’s all research. Having been re introduced to surfing by Clif a few years ago, thanks mate, I am now learning to row. It’s a different dance to surfing but still very much about a communion with water. Till later …. I have observed that in the world nowadays, video games are classified as the latest phenomenon with children of all ages. There are times when it may be not possible to drag your children away from the video games. If you want the best of both worlds, there are lots of educational video games for kids. Thanks for your post Amphioxus lanceolatus |.
